TIPS | HINTS | POWER USERS SECTION

Use your CSK/SK2 to admin your Shoutcast Server/Winamp (ASK)

I love this one!!!! You must have a high-speed/always on internet connection and have Winamp (cuz its an awesome mp3/music/multimedia player and one of the best out there) and an CSK/SK2. Just install the dev kit and key and go to http://www.skdr.net and download the Winamp Remote program for the CSK,SK2.

Install the bndl with htConsole

Then go here, http://jurai.free.fr/skapp/gen_rsvr.zip , to get the Winamp plugin that lets you control Winamp remotely. Install the plugin to your Winamp\Plugins folder. Then start the plug-in and set the port in Winamp, Preferences > Plugins > General Purpose > Remote Control Server. I would recommend changing the port for security sake (remember to forward that port if you have a firewall or use XP with SP2). Also change the updatetime to: 250ms

Then go into the Winamp Remote program on your Sidekick. Set up a connection to your pc. Put in your IP address and port as the address, using the same port that you setup on your PC's Winamp (ie http://myipaddress.com:portnumber) Once you click connect, you should see something similar to a Winamp player. You can control volume and playback. This is very nice if you run a Shoutcast server, lets you change the song anywhere! Also nice for parties too! You can put the speakers downstairs or anywhere and still be able to change up the song without going up. Plus, its pretty geeky cool too!!

For those super geeks, I suggest using a Winamp Plugin that will show whats playing and the history as a webpage, makes it easier to go back to songs.

You can change the default Hotkeys for applications (ASK)

At the Jump screen, Menu > Settings > Jump Shortcuts
If you have an SK2, you can go into the Phone > Settings > Advanced > uncheck the Dial with Letters
This lets you type in the Jump Shortcut at the jump screen without holding the Jump button (ie I have Email set to E, I can just hit the E letter at the jump screen to get to my email, no holding Jump + E
NOTE: they work in any app by hold Jump + corresponding shortcut (ie Jump + e = email)

So you got a new shiny SK2 and well, its got a camera... So why not make use of it? Perhaps you are into blogging, try out hipblogs at http://www.hiptop.com . You post blogs by sending emails from your Hiptop/Sidekick, you can also attach photos you took with the blog!

Check out http://HIPalbum.com , a great place to sign up for (free). It is a photo upload via emails with photos attached to their servers. Then it uploads them to your page almost instantly. Uncensored content, be warned.

Check out http://hiptop.bedope.com/ , a great public photo posting board, lets you see what else is happening around the world in the eyes of other sidekickers/hiptoppers!

Use your hiptop/sidekick for everything! (ASK)

The great thing about the hiptop/sidekick is that its an all-in-one type device and it does each rather well! Why not use it do everything??
-Use your hiptop to check your bank accounts (if your bank's website uses javascript, it will not work, see if they have a mobile version or a non-java version)
-You can pay bills with it too, it does allow for secure connections.
-Bid on ebay auctions, check the weather
-Get the dev kit and some bndls and REALLY make your hiptop/sidekick what you want it to be
